Efforts continue to hurt lower income families, children, seniors, veterans, immigrants, people of color–there's no need to reiterate the headlines here, except to say that the court orders requiring the release of SNAP funds which had already been allocated are being appealed and defied.
With a quarter of Chelsea's population legally qualifying for SNAP, you can just imagine the added pressure now on its food pantries, kitchens, and other food insecurity programs that already serve so many people in need.
The calendar reminds us that this month is Thanksgiving. We hope that its spirit is as strong as ever amongst our friends and partners. We understand that every community in Massachusetts and the country is suffering from this heinous ploy.
However, if you have the means to help the Chelsea Kiwanis Club serve the increased demand at the Healthy Chelsea micro-pantry that we sponsor at 738 Broadway, and the community that it supports, we would be very grateful.
You can donate tax-deductible funds online or via a check mailed to our PO Box; or, shelf stable items can be dropped off at School Department Room #216 at City Hall and in the lobby of Chelsea Police Department at 16 Park Street, or get in touch with Carolyn to arrange pick-up (contact info below). … See MoreSee Less
Our team is always hard at work to make things happen for families in Chelsea. This past week our Club President Carolyn showed the importance of community partnership, by teaming up with our friends from Chelsea Chamber of Commerce & Chelsea Police Department to help pass out candy at Chelsea's Halloween celebration.
